When he gets angry enough - and I mean pretty damn enraged -
his touch and presence can kill small animals and plants, draining the life right out of them. He'll walk through a garden and every flower around him will wilt. Other times unexplained things will happen if his emotions become too overwhelming or powerful, like the power will go out momentarily or windows will shatter with no outside cause. He doesnt have any control over this and its usually involuntary.
Weapon:
Jigoku Flute - an instrument that can be used to summon lesser fiends to do one's bidding (and by lesser I mean imp-like, beast-like, and spirit-like creatures that arent very powerful but are still useful). He was originally supposed to use it to help more demons (bad ones) cross over from Hell to earth but his intentions shifted when he changed his ways.

Personality:
A noble demon, very chivalrous and charming. The rules of Heaven versus Hell and what a demon is "supposed to be" dont really apply to him. He breaks the stigma of evil-sinful-wicked and is a very hard person to dislike. He keeps a cool head and might seem a little mysterious to those who dont know him. He has a very long fuse and rarely ever loses his temper. It would take something really serious to set him off like if the lives of those he cares about were to be threatened or put in danger somehow. If you value your life you wont mess with those who are close to him, he's incredibly protective of friends and loved ones.
He feels obligated to defend anyone weaker than himself, human or other. With his own set of morals he's almost like a modern-day knight. He'll go as far as to risk his life for others, especially if they mean something to him and there is an emotional connection. If it werent for his solid black wings you'd think he was an angel. He can be very kind even if it is supposedly out of character for his breed. Many demons who know of him arent very fond of his ways, mostly the darker ones. Some see his behavior as a betrayal to his race and are convinced he's living a lie.
On the inside he is very conflicted but wont show it. If he has issues he usually keeps them to himself and would prefer to help others with their problems rather than bring his own into the light. He's constantly haunted by his past and the mistakes he has made (revealed in the history section). On the inside he's always second guessing himself and is guilt-ridden. When he looks into the mirror he cant help but see a monster. He seeks personal atonment through acts of heroism, he often keeps mortals safe from other creatures that pose a threat.
Strategy is everything to him when it comes to fighting. He prefers to use brains over brawns in battle and always thinks a few steps ahead of his opponents. He's very intelligent but not arrogant about it and has a lot of wisdom that he carried with him from his former life.
History:
Gensai was not always the person he is today. If you were to encounter him in his previous life you would have met someone who was evil, destructive, out for himself and nobody else - the true definition of a monster. Before existing on Earth he originated in the depths of Hell, born of fire as a pureblooded demon with way too much power. He wouldnt think twice about taking the life of another and hated humans because he saw them as weak, inferrior beings with no purpose. Back then he would have loved nothing more than to see their feeble race die out and this was before he had ever gotten the chance to come into contact with a mortal.
He came to Earth on a mission that would help bring about the apocalypse, he wasnt the only one. There were many other demons with the same persuit and they scattered themselves in different parts of the world. In order to cross over he had to sacrifice a great deal of his power but that didnt matter because he would develop it again over time. He needed a vessel so he possessed a little boy, claiming the body as his own. At that time he could care less about what happened to the child's soul.
His new life as a human was hard to get used to. For the first time he was surrounded by mortals and they were nothing like his underworld counterparts. His new family cared about him and showed him love and affection, feelings he had never known. As the years went by he was exposed to friendships, bonds, and compassionate emotions that he knew even knew existed. After a while he developed empathy and found himself growing attatched to his new companions. The more time he spent around people, the more he realized that they werent the purposeless creatures he thought they were. They deserved to live and maybe he was the one who didnt. It wasnt long before he regretted his evil deeds, especially stealing the life of the little boy who's body he was living in. The guilt never did leave him though and it still haunts him on a regular basis.
He started to regain his powers but eventually abandoned his chaotic goals, deciding to defend the humans instead. Protecting them from harm and danger was his way of repenting for his sins. He became what you can call a sort of "guardian demon" opposed to a guardian angel. He made it his responsibility to keep mortals safe from fiends like himself, this got him a pretty bad reputation with his own kind. Other demons who knew what he was doing would frequently seek him out and attack him, especially when he would get their way and interfere with whatever havoc they were trying to cause.
One day Gensai was discovered by one of the other demons that crossed over the same way he had (on the same mission). The two were well-acquainted in their former lives and could have probably been considered partners in crime back in the old days. His name was Ankoku and he demanded to know why Gensai was "wasting his time" playing hero for creatures he once considered worthless. When Gensai explained Ankoku thought it was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. He tried to convince Gensai to revert back to his old ways and join forces with him, knowing that his power would be doubled if they were to work together. He was furious when Gensai declined his offer and tried to force him into accepting which didnt work out either. "I wont help you," Gensai told him, firmly. "I've started a new life and I can never look back."
Ankoku mocked him for growing accustomed to the human way of life, he couldnt believe how much Gensai had changed over the years. He wanted to shock him out of it somehow so he did the only thing he thought would work, he killed Gensai's human family and went after most of his friends. When Gensai found out he flew into a rage. It was the first time he had ever expirienced loss and he dealt with it by attacking Ankoku with every ounce of power he had.
